GPUGRID Terms of Use, Privacy, and Safety Policy 1. Authorized Use Run GPUGRID only on computers that you own or for which you have obtained the owner's permission. Do not use public, institutional, or workplace machines without proper authorization, as this may violate school or company policies. 2. How GPUGRID Uses Your Computer When you run GPUGRID on your computer, it will use part of the computer's CPU power, disk space, and network bandwidth. You can control how much of your resources are used by GPUGRID, and when it uses them. The work done by your computer contributes to the goals of GPUGRID, as described on its website. The application programs may change from time to time. 3. Contribution to Research GPUGRID is hosted at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and supports scientific research carried out in collaboration with Acellera. 4. Privacy Policy Your account on GPUGRID is identified by a name that you choose. This name may be shown on the GPUGRID website, along with a summary of the work your computer has done. If you want to be anonymous, choose a name that doesn't reveal your identity. If you participate in GPUGRID, information about your computer (such as its processor type, amount of memory, etc.) will be recorded and used to assign tasks. This information will also appear on the GPUGRID website but will not include details that reveal your computer’s location (e.g., domain name or IP address). You must provide an email address to participate. This will not be shared or displayed. GPUGRID may send occasional newsletters, which you can opt out of at any time. Private messages on the GPUGRID site are visible only to the sender and recipient. GPUGRID does not monitor these messages. If another user sends unwanted messages, you can add them to your message filter to block further communication. Forum participation is public. Messages posted are visible to everyone, including non-members. By posting, you grant an irrevocable license for others to view and copy your messages. All posts must follow the site’s posting guidelines. 5. Security and Risks Downloading and running any software from the Internet involves some risk. GPUGRID mitigates these risks through rigorous testing, firewall protection, and digitally signed executables produced on secure, offline systems. Please note: On some systems, the application may lead to overheating. If you encounter this, reduce CPU usage or stop running GPUGRID entirely. 6. Liability GPUGRID and Universitat Pompeu Fabra assume no liability for damage to your computer, loss of data, or any other issues that may occur as a result of participating in the project. 7. Participation in Other BOINC Projects BOINC is the platform GPUGRID runs on, and many other projects use it as well. You are welcome to join other BOINC-based projects to keep your system productive when GPUGRID has no available tasks. However, these projects are independent, and GPUGRID cannot vouch for their security practices or research content. Join them at your own risk. 8. Software Licensing All rights reserved. The GUGRID application software, workunits, associated data files, and generated results (the "Materials") are proprietary. No permission is granted to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, or sell copies of the Materials outside of the execution of GPUGRID.net work units. THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
